WordPress updates are not optional. Outdated core files, plugins, and themes are the leading cause of security vulnerabilities and site breakdowns. But blindly clicking ‘Update All’ is not the answer either. A single incompatible plugin update can take your site offline.
WPCloud treats updates as managed infrastructure, not a checkbox. Our update team reviews, tests, and applies every update with the same care you would expect from an in-house developer.
Security Updates
When a security vulnerability is disclosed, our team acts the same day. We take a two-pronged approach: first, our firewall team creates a specific rule to protect all sites from the known vulnerability immediately. Second, once the plugin or core patch is released, the update is applied that same day. If a site cannot be updated for compatibility reasons, the firewall rule continues to protect it until the issue is resolved.
Routine Updates
For non-security updates, our team takes a measured approach. We maintain an extensive internal database that tracks known issues with plugin updates across the thousands of WordPress sites we manage. This real-world intelligence, gathered from our own infrastructure, informs every update decision. Updates are tested on internal staging environments before being rolled out to production sites.
Visual Verification
After every update, our proprietary visual comparison tool captures before-and-after screenshots and performs automated analysis to detect layout shifts, broken elements, or visual regressions. This AI-assisted system catches issues that a simple ‘site is still loading’ check would miss. If the tool flags a change, a team member investigates and resolves it before the update is confirmed.

WordPress Core
Major and minor WordPress core releases, applied after compatibility testing with your active plugins and theme. We do not push core updates blindly. If a release introduces a known conflict, we wait for the fix.
Plugins
All active plugins on your site, updated and monitored. Our internal tracking database records known bugs and compatibility issues across our entire client base, so we know when to update immediately and when to wait.
Themes
Active theme updates, including parent and child themes. Tested for visual regressions using our automated comparison system before being pushed live.
Rollback Capability
Backup restore points are created before every production update. If anything goes wrong, your site can be rolled back to its pre-update state within minutes. This is the safety net that makes managed updates genuinely risk-free.
